when u get your chip,
follow these instructions to change the eprom out. the 173 is really easy to do unlike the 153 which is dual boards. This DME is chipped withan ebay sellers chip.
1 turn the dme over and locate the locking tabs, use a set of small cutters/ or pliers to bend the tabs up 90 degrees.
2 Once you have released all the tabs, gently turn the dme over and lift the cover straight up and off
3 locate the eprom on the circuit board, it will have a plastic cover clipped on
4 remove the plastic cover by very gently prying it off, either with a small set of plyers or flat head screw driver. AVOID touching or putting excessive pressure on the board.
5 remove the original eprom chip by lifting straight up, or pryiing on either side with a small flat head crew driver with a gentle twisting motion, do this evenly on both ends and lift the chip off out of the pin sockets evenly, BE GENTLE
6, Note the orientation of the chip and install the new chip on the same orientation as the original. take your time and make sure that all the pins are aligned to the sockets on each side. you can do this with your fingers to install new chip.
7 be very gentle when aligning the pins, you may have to apply slight pressure to slighlty bend the pins to aligne with a squeezing motion
8 Once the chip is installed, re-install the plastic chip clip over the eprom chip, re-install the cover and turn it over and bend the tabs back to the locking position, DO NOT TAP THEM.
NOTE:
YOU should do this work on DME where there is NO CARPET, to AVOID STATIC Charge,. IF you really want to you can ground yourself with a grounding wrist strap, but its not nessessary, Ive done at least 15 of these dme all on my kitchen countertop. Should take less than 10 mins to install.
DO NOT TOUCH any parts of the Circuit board.
I always Write on the DME or ECU cover what it is chipped for, if its other than stock.
When you go to reinstall your DME in your car, assuming that you disconnected your battery prior to pulling the dme in the first place, re-install DME in car , and connect the battery and turn the key let idle for a few mins , and go for a drive, Your BUTT DYNO should notice a little bit more YEEEEHAWWW!
Hope that helps.Last edited by sweet6e30; 03-10-2013, 11:49 AM.my build here ---> http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ht=lemans+blue
