just got my e30 yesterday now it wont start!

got my 86 325es yesterday and it drove fine (drove it 3 and a half hours home). seemed like it was misfiring, so today i decided to do a small tune up, put some lucas injector cleaner in the tank (half tank), and changed the plugs and wires and now it wont hold idle.

i thought i had the plug wires wrong, which i did and i corrected it. started right up and when i hit the gas it died. put the plugs and wires that came with the car and now it'll start, jump up to 2500 rpms go back down to 850 (does it a couple times) then dies. I'm stumped, any info is greatly appreciated!

    Check for vacuum leaks.

There weren't any yesterday. The car isn't even able to stay on long enough for me to find one

I had a similar situation happen to me when my alternator wasn't working. Not sure if that helps.

There most likely are intake leaks. A smoke test is the only sure way of finding leaks and the engine is off for the test, so it doesn't matter if it will idle.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I know there is a ninja hose under the throttle body underneath the connector for the TPS, the evap purge valve to the intake sometimes rots and falls off. My car idled and ran without it, but if thats off thats one less intake leak to find.

Thoroughly check the intake bellows. They usually dryrot and crack. Remove from the car and look where the bends are all around.

              EDIT:

Just read the jumps up and down on rpms.
We had an eta that would bounce idle, and it turned out the iac wires were loose in the harness that went to the iac. Try wiggling them when the car "idles" and see if it changes

Sounds like what my e24 does when the air meter is unplugged. I would double check all electrical connections and vacuum lines. Then as Jlevie stated, smoke test. It's probably something simple that just may be difficult to find.

Tried to start the car this morning and it fired right up, held idle but is running rich, I can smell the scent of gas out of my exhaust

Measure the rail fuel pressure while the engine is running.
