    Fuel Pump question

Having had the pump whining a lot over the last few weeks intermittently i figure its on the way out. I have an early model E30 with an external pump. Would it make any difference if i use an aftermarket pump or should i tick to oem?
Plenty of other branded external pumps here that i could get , oem pump not so readily available.

Do a search for external pump delete. Buy a Tre Performance 255 or Walboro in tank pump and don't look back.

Good external pumps can be found cheap and replaced very easily. I went with an external Walbro on my race car because it was cheaper and a proven brand.

I'd wait for more definite symptoms before replacing. It will start stuttering on long trips if it is the fuel pump. Every fuel pump I've replaced made more whine than the broken ones they replaced. Also note that you have an in-tank pump that's just as likely to fail. I replaced both of mine with Airtex units three years ago and they've been fine.

My TRE pump is about a year old and is starting to fail already. It may be from an issue I had where a dent in the tank prevented it from sealing properly as I'm not sure if that created additional strain on it.

Just throwing that out there. I think I'll be going Walbro this time around whenever it actually dies.
