    cracks near the strut tower?

I'm looking at an '88 325is and the owner says there some cracking around the strut tower.

Is this a huge red flag? or is it something that can be fixed relatively easily? (by someone with welding skills of course)

That rather depends on where the cracks are and why they are there.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Cracking just indicates body stress in that area, and as you know, all oldish and most new cars flex substantially. I would say if there is rust under the cracked panel filler (which would be painted body color) then it may be a serious issue.

I will assume you are talking about cracks at the base front of the tower, which are common, a PITA to fix if needed, but not a fatal issue, of course if you can see daylight through the crack run!
