CEL is on, but the code is 1444

    Hi

I recently had a bad o2 sensor which i had replaced and the code had changed to "no faults" 1444, however the CEL is always flashing when i drive

    what gives?

    Thanks
    Alex

1444? That's the "no faults" code I believe. I suppose you could pull the ground wire from your battery and leave it off for a few minutes and put it back on to "reset". Someone else may have a better idea though.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. No code being sent from the ECu but between the computer and the light there is a short maybe.

To flip the check engine light on the ECU simply grounds the side of the bulb out, one side of the bulb always has +12.

So unless ONE wire on the ECU is grounding out (which I doubt) I bet its something internally on the ECU.

I have the same thing happening. CEL flashes, but the code is 1444.

            Hmmm . . . .

Looks like I have it sorted. Coolant level sender was bad and is now lighting up the overhead. I swapped in a "new" one and now the overhead "kuhlwasser" light and the blinker in the dash are off.

Been searching this for a while and can't see a good thread. Any more input. I have the same issues. CEL blinks intermittently, but 1444 stored. My brake linking also blinks intermittently. Ant more insight before I dig out the meter and start back probing and driving?

Just to be clear here, are you referring to the actual Check Engine Light (red warning to the left of the spotlamp warning) or the flashing yellow 'CHECK' lamp between the speedo and rev counter ?

If it's the yellow flashing then that isn't the CEL, the 'CHECK' is just telling you that the check control has detected a fault and a red indicator should be lit on the roof check panel. None of the check panel alerts will raise an OBD I code.

                    Yea, it
is the check engine light. I am away from the car until Sunday, so I can't look into it until then. First priority will be to replace a bad leaking rear main seal.
