    sweet musty smell from heater

anyone experience this? its happened at 2 different times to 2 different e30s of mine now. just wondering if its bad, or water is causing it to smell like this or what.

Your heater valve may be malfuntioning. It might be coolant that you're smelling. That would explain the sweet smell.

Normally you can replace the o-rings or whatever seals are down there. The dealer sells a kit.

the heater core was a recall on all e30's it has most likely been changed on everyones, but they still fail every so offen.

you should go check teledata to see if your car was one of the recall cars. if so, the dealer shuld refund you the money and file it as a recall repair.

the heater valves in some earlier E30's were faulty and were supposed to be fixed for free, but not all the notices went to the correct ppl since the E30's changed ownerships and it's been a long time. just go printout the BMW service bulletin (search for it) and take it to the dealer and have them lookup the bulletin number.
