    Piston ring testing

Can I just use normal engine oil? What oil should I use? You know... the whole oil in the spark plug hole to restore compression from bad rings. Thanks bitches ;)

And when you put oil in and do compression test again, if compression is better... your rings are going bad correct? Or is it the other way around?

yeah becasue the oil helps it seal better. Has the car been over heated at all? i know my temp neddle being even with the start of the red was enough to fuck the HG

Nope. Never overheated in any way. Never been past the 3/4 mark. If you didnt see before... I put up compression numbers and I am getting a "new" engine. I just wanna see if its the rings or not. Cus if it is, I can just keep putting oil in there until I get my new engine lol.

As I said before, you almost definitely have a leaking headgasket. The chances of the rings failing on three adjacent cylinders is pretty slim, however a headgasket leaking between cylinders is very common.

If you really want to do a 'wet' compression test, use about a tablespoon of motor oil.

use heavy oil though, if your numbers are better, it's rings, if not, i'm going to go with HG.....

And...the test is only that, a test. 10 spins of the starter and it is gone.

Remember to have your throttle open all the way while doing a compression test.

When you were driving, what color smoke came out the tailpipe?

No black smoke, rings aren't the culprit.

Berw is right, too. Rings are gonna wear evenly, HG can puke between cylinders, so if it is 3 in a group, look at the HG.

Really... it doesnt matter what it is because I should be picking up another engine real soon. I am just curious. I would doubt rings as well but you know ;)

just replace the HG. I just got mine my head ready to take off (just need torx sockets) in a couple hours, and its only like 100 for all the gaskets

Yea, then machining the head... so why not get a whole engine for cheap? And thats what I'm doing so... nobody is talkin me out of it ;)

ya but do you know the history of this "new" engine? The same thing can happen to it, in a short period.

Except I am replacing all the gaskets. If compression comes out good, I won't fuck with the head gasket though. Everything else...getting changed. Do you guys not pay attention to my other threads recently????????????

well i guess if thats what you want to do. A head gasket is like $25.

If i put my head back on and it doesnt have perfect compression because of rings, im gunna die

It might not have perfect compression because you didnt machine the head before putting it on. If it over heats and the head gasket blows, you need to mill the head so its perfectly flush because more than likely it is warped. You need to mill the head when you change the head gasket in any situation more than likely.
