Is there more than one fuel filter (1991 318i)

    I have a 1991 318i with the M42.
Is there more than one fuel filter in the (factory stock) fuel system?
Also, what spark plugs to use?

(yes, I did try the search feature first)

I only know of 1 fuel filter. For spark plugs I am using NGK bkr6ek.

      Only one, driver side.

"The fuel filter for a '91 318i is underneath the car, driver's side, in front of the rear tire. Once you get your head underneath, look up and it'll be tucked away against the car. Try to locate the inlet fuel hose coming out of the fuel tank... try your best to follow it to the filter. Mine was 13 years old and covered in dirt/gunk. It'll be close to the outside perimeter of the frame, so close that you might not have to jack up the rear to change the filter."

Thanks! I found that one when I replaced an exhaust hanger last summer...
but I still do appreciate the description (and someone using search may need it).

I'm still not intimately familiar with this car like I am with my MR2, so there
was a good chance I might need to know where. I do have a Haynes,
Chilton and Bentley manual. I still need the Bentley for the E36 to get
coverage for the M42 engine specifics.

I was wondering if there was another one in the engine bay or in the fuel
tank (horrible design, but I think some cars have them)

I think our Honda Accord had two of them. It never made sense to me.
Once fuel has been filtered after the fuel tank, it should stay clean.
If fuel lines are corroded or rotted to the point they contaminate fuel,
there are bigger problems that need to be addressed.

There is a fuel filter (sock) attached to the pump inlet.

            Inside the tank, right?
