    E30 318is - Not starting problem

Hi. My 1990 318is failed to start today. The last few times I had tried to start it, it didn't work the first few attempts but then started.
The exact fault is when you turn the key to ignition or start position there is no warning lights on the dashboard as usually light up when you turn the ignition on and ther starter does not operate. It is like the switch does nothing, like it is completely dead. However, there is power to central locking, clock, etc.

I have done the basic ignition switch continuity tests in the Bentley manual (although I couldn't do them all as the Bentley doesn't seem to cover my model exactly) and it seems the ignition switch is ok but when I apply power I get 12V into the switch and maybe 2V out. I am not sure whether this is a fault ignition switch or something external causing it. Incidently there is no power to radio etc in Accessories position.

The battery is fairly new and has 12.5V so I presume good. All fuses tested OK. I switched around the relays on the firewall too.
Any ideas on what to check next?

    Thanks.

Well given that the clock, locking, etc, are not connected to the switch, and that the non-functioning accessories and starter motor that you mentioned didn't budge ARE connected to the ignition switch, my bets are that the switch is kicking the bucket. Any second opinions?
