electrical hot smell

the smell is coming from the front passenger side and comes out the vents, smell like a wire burning, have noticed an increased amount of fog on that side of the window over the last few days and the smell also comes out on the outside passenger side by the vents by the wipers, 1st time it smelled like a burn was this morning it is cold and snowy here in KS and my car has 236k is this my blower motor trying to go out, and take other electrics with it? Never replaced a blower motor, hate tearing apart the interior, but if that what it is I have one on my parts car, what other sources could there be for the smell, as it comes out the vents on the inside and on the outside, thank in advance.

Check all your fuses to make sure they are the correct size. The last e30 I owned had melted wires because someone had installed oversize fuses. Melting wires could be the source of your smell.

In any case, take a look around to see what's burning.

first thing i'd do is grab a freakin fire extinguisher from your house or something & keep it in your backseat if you have to go anywhere :shock:

but that's all i can tell ya bout the situation... i'm not an electrical guru

You replace the heater fan from the engine bay.
Its a 30 minute job.

Does it make noise when you turn on the fan? A whine or grinding or howl?

the smell seems to have subsided, a fuse did blow, and is fine now, the remaining symptom of the fogging of the passengers side of the windshield has stayed and the smell before being electrical like now; was a coolant smell, which seems to be going away, heat still works, no sounds out of the ordinary, just a lil foggy on the passenger side. :roll:
