    M42 gents,

I had my flywheel machined today, he removed 4lbs of it,
as you may know the weight is all on the outside edge of the flywheel,
and this was removed from there,

My buddy calculated about 30% easier to rotate this than in stock form
I´ll post some info when I convert my M40 into a M42, wich should be this weekend,

I heard M20 flywheels are usable, but with what trans?
a 228mm flywheel is not going to work with a M40 trans!.

m20 flywheel and clutch assemblies work with the stock m42 trans. Im not following what exactly you are doing.

I have a wrecked 318is and a 318i in order, I´m transplanting all the 318is parts over to the 318i,

      my 318is has a 215mm clutch,
what starter does one use on a M42 trans?
Nevermind I get how it works,
the flywheel is as large as the M20 one, the pressure plate and clutch are 215mm but there is space for M20 flywheel and clutch, damnit,

I have plenty of M20 flywheels and clutches and pressure plates.

I'm pretty sure you can use the M20 clutch and flywheel in the M42, you need like a 323 throw out bearing and to modify the starter.

Ah yes, this is where I read it, right here on r3v.

You take the gear for the flywheel from a m20 starter and put it on the m42 starter. Its a pain in the ass, took me a couple of hours [first timer]

it might be a really good idea to do the m20 flywheel converyion for the m42 b/c there are a lot more options for m20 clutches. Not to mention the obvious stuff.
