Kind of a weird question, but if a headbolt was missing, would that affect performance?

One more thing, I was also curious as to what goes into doing a stroker motor on a 325i engine. I really want to get a lot of power out of my car, and I heard making a stroker motor really does do the trick. So, anybody got some good info on stroker motors?Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
Mark: "You never will."

where is the oil going? if it is going into the coolant, then yes it is because of the head bolt... but if you are burning it, then it most likly wont be the head gasket leaking... you could do a leak down test on the motor to determine if the missing bolt is causing a head gasket leak, if not, are tehre any leaks that are visible?
i would buy a new set of head bolts... or just 1 if you can... if the head gasket is leaking you could buy a gasket kit for $99 and the head bolts for $23 from bav auto... or you could just get the head gasket for $27 or soemthing from IE

Haha, well, it was from the previous owner I suppose. I opened up my valve cover gasket and noticed the old hex head bolt snapped off. The car has been this way ever since I've had it, since April of '03. It's still been running, and I guess it just loves to burn oil. I guess that would explain the grey smoke out my exhaust when I floor it at high rpms. Looks like I'll be upgrading to torx bolts! Anybody have any other ideas about the oil?Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"

Anyhow, just FYI, the broken hex bolts is a common problem and the Torx style head bolts are the correct replacement parts so it doesnt happen again. I'd be more than willing to bet that this is the cause of your missing fluids. Use new bolts and a fresh head gasket. Don't go chasing phantom problems and random suggestions when you have such an obvious problem at hand!Adam Fogg- '88 M3
Common sense- It's the new 'gifted'
