    no start after engine overhaul

I just finished hooking everything up after an engine overhaul and i cant get it to start. The first time i turned the key the engine cranked and never fired then i tried switching the crank position wire with one near it because i was not sure i had it right. After i tried that the engine just clicks and doest quit crank but tries to and so i switched the wires back and it continuse to do that. I havent really messed with is after that, i am hungry, but what could i try next?

check all your grounds and battery cables also all wires to the starter are tight.

also could be the starter solonoid (sp) gettin hot and locking up, GM starters are know for that, its just a thought.
