OBC, Motronic, and new owner ??s

    Okay, new here...Ragged 88 325is, 151K on broken odo...

You have a lot of good tech stuff here. And I already feel the love.

I did search for these answers, did not find.

Does anyone have procedure for OBC hidden codes? I have seen them on another site, can't find them again.

Motronic procedure for codes, you know, the one with key in position 2, gas to WOT 5x...check engine light blinks? Why does this not work in my car? Is it production date specific?

I am replacing all the usual neglected wear stuff, many previous owners, no history. All fluids, new Radio Shack brand SI batteries, adjusted valves, rewired some underdash wires that were a-danglin' on my legs.

I also have new control arms & bushings, F and R Shock mounts, shocks, struts, springs, (Ask me the brand when I am not feeling soooo sensitive), think I will need to do rear bushings too. Cat is shot, gonna gut and donate all the guts (PLATINUM!) to the $50.00 mod guy, he can recycle for a new upgrade!

PS...Will a R3Vlimited sticker add as much RWHP as ricer stickers? I see they are on sale...

PPS...So, do I just find ANY old dancer, take her to a parking garage, pump her full of bathtub meth, tell her my car is a brass pole, and get the vanity plate between the legs photo? I laughed at first, thought it said R3Volting Trying to fit in here...

PPS...If I do flame, and mock your mods, should I photoshop out my gay stickers when I snap the rubber chicken? Or just crop it?

PPPS...When I get to 5 or more posts a day average, fuckin' shoot me.

    More annoying new guy shit...

OK, Meyle, Febi, Lemfoerder, Genuine.... Is there a preference? Quality issues?

Rear shock mounts... Bought some...look really weak...1 metal bushing with rubber bushings to go over it...Gonna AutoX a little, should I get E36 units? I did get gaskets and reinforcing plates.

Is there an easy way to do cap and rotor? Did mine yesterday, and now hands a a bloody mess. F-'in shroud!

Dave, your car makes me feel so less than. Fucking unbelieveable.

I dont know about the others, but pressing the 1000 and 1 at the same time displays the amount of gas left in the tank, in Liters (on mine anyway, unless you can change it somehow :P)

      Unknown.

The stickers add 1HP per inch, so the larger ones are more powerful. The general misconception is that it is per letter, but if you had a very small sticker with many letters, it doesnt stand out nearly as much as those honda guys' bad ass sponsor stickers and obviously couldnt provide any more power. Then again it is a BMW.

Thats the ticket, dont photoshop your car unless you want to put spinnnaz on it. lol

      Lemfoerder is the OE stuff.

RSMs will last for a while anyway, if theyre brand new run em into the ground. You're talking about the stock rubber ones right? Yeah..

I am cursed!! Got another one

OK, spent a few hours gettin' real dirty. But progressing to a better car.

Front: New control arms, control arm bushings, struts, strut mounts.
Rear: New shocks, springs, JT Design shock mounts with stiffening plates.
Put clutch stop in. Big difference. Will have to go short shifter next.
I did find some nice cheepy splices in the anti-lock sensor wiring...must be why bulb was not in instrument panel...wiring looks shot, will need to be replaced. Found a ton of fluid in steering rack boots. Oil pan bolts were finger tight, need a new gasket. Bought pair of sport seats off of e-bay, 1 is here, other is AWOL.

So, my sister has an 89 325i auto tranny. Needs rack seals, pan gasket, leaks everywhere. Rear bushings shot, has a big spot of Bondo on roof, cracking. I knew she was looking at getting it repaired, told her I was willing to help, as I have the Bentley, and what does she do?

Gives me the car. She is tired of messing with it.

So, do I part this thing out, and use as a parts car for mine?
See just how light this thing can go, and track it?
        Sell it?
        Hmmm...

Would have to at least swap bumpers, give it the diving boards...
I would hate to part it, as it would mean the end of a viable e30. Unless one of you race junkies needs a shell.

You're going to track an automatic? Fly me out there so I can watch.

              My other new-to-me 325

So, to continue my orig ??s, no bueno on OBC "hidden" codes?

Prev post detailed the 89 325i that my sister was tired of messing with. I had never really check it out, but picked it up today. Rack leaks like a bitch. Found gold in glovebox, service records going back to early 90's. Gotta love previous owner, paperwork was in a manila folder, has owners manual, radio manual, service book, etc. Even has iS Spoiler and new tires.

Quick read thru shows new timing belts at 70K and 140K, head replaced at 80K, regular LOF with Castrol GTX, new strut inserts, shocks, rear shock mounts at 150K, new injectors last year, it just goes on and on.

Needless to say, a well maintained ride. My sister had for 6-8 months, my nephew drove it to school. They are unwilling to spend money on it for pan gasket, rack seals, and general maint stuff...

I had even offered to help her with it, do some stuff with my nephew, she was just over it I guess.

I gave car a fill up of decent gas, injector cleaner, and steering fluid, thru it into car wash, and its looking OK.

Gonna be a decent driver if I just catch up on maintenence.

So, no part out or gut and race.

And yeah, its an automatic, would have needed a 5 speed conversion to autocross.

              I can't quit smilin':)

                  Part out? Nah..

OK, so I am blessed/burdened with 2 e30's, both have their issues. But both run/drive...

I would have to have a major problem with a vehicle to part it out. There are not that many of these things left, and I feel a responsibility to keep them going.

The 88 is awaiting dry weather for floor rot repairs.
The 89 is doing well after AFM "rehab". Tore apart, cleaned, adjusted wipers.

Last night, I actually told my girlfriend that she's lucky I did not decide to tear into the 89. She freakin loves driving that car.

And, her ebay 6 button OBC arrived yesterday, clock FTW!
