Can't get the goddamn lock cylinder out

Finally got around to ordering a door lock repair kit from Pelican. I'm actually not too worried about all those little tumblers and springs, but I can't get the cylinder out of the door. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get that retaining metal clip to come out?
I've tried prying it out with a long flathead, as suggested in this guide:

I've tried pulling it to the right with needle nose pliers. I just can't get it to budge.
Am I right in thinking that the clip is oriented in the same way that guy is holding it, in his write-up?
I mean - this shouldn't be the tricky bit, right?

it's not tricky after you've done it, but yes, oriented as shown.... I grabbed mine with a pair of adjustable pliers and pilled towards the hinges of the door while keeping the metal clip against the inside of the door panel. wiggle wiggle, then yank.... sound familiar?

Ok, got it. So I guess that write-up is for early models. I had the same bracket, but it was attached to another electronic plate. I don't know what it is, but it's the same U-shape but thicker, and it's wired up to something. Anyway - I was attempting to pull out the metal bracket pictured, without this attached piece, so obviously I couldn't get it to budge. Pulled them both, and it popped right out, since they're screwed together.
Sorry, should have taken pictures. Maybe some sort of safety feature? I did have to disconnect/reconnect the battery before I could get my locks to work properly after putting everything back together.
Also - I recommend buying a bottle of contact cement, and a couple door panel clips. The vinyl on my door panel was coming off at the edges, so I took the opportunity to reglue it, and replace two broken door panel clips.

The wired piece you saw is for the heated door lock feature that came on some models.
