1991 325I AUTO revs up until put into drive

This is on my girlfriend's car. Vehicle would idle at about 2k until put into drive. after being put into drive the vehicle's idle would drop down to normal rpms and run as it should. Now it died twice on her when she started it this morning. coolant temp sensor tests fine, I cleaned the ICV and it got a bit better.

Any ideas? Going to OHM the crank sensor tonight.

Vacuum leak would be my first guess.

I would definitely check for vacuum leaks. Did you check the simple things like breather hose, ICV hose, and intake boot?
