Wire with Plug in glove compartment?

I found a wire with a plug behind the computer. There is a mate for it - but it is disconnected. Anyone know what it is for? I believe I read a long time ago that it should be disconnected for automatic, connected for manual. It has something to do with it being connected to run slightly richer for manual. Can anyone verify?

Best picture I could get - Mine was unplugged. Driving right now with it plugged in to see if it makes any difference.

Hmm... not sure. I looked in my eta and I don't see it. I'll look in my '90 325i later today.

I did not see this wire in my '90 325i, however, the wiring has been hacked up in some spots by one of the PO's.
