How to Install Wiper Drive Rod with Minimal Pain?

So the drive rod that connects the wiper motor to the wiper linkage/transmission wore out. The bushing stretched and popped off the linkage ball every couple swipes of the wipers.

I ordered a new drive rod...part number 61 61 1 370 796..but it seemed really tight to install on the motor side. Any tips on installation. Do I have to remove the firewall insulation and go that route? Also how tight will it be to press the new part on with fresh bushings? Any tricks there?

    Thanks in advance!

Lube the bushing and the ball up with Vaseline.

Just plan for it to take a lot longer than you expected. Have a beverage handy because it's frustrating.

Good tips...I can't seem to budge the side of the drive rod thats still attached. What's the best way to get it off...brute force?
