    M42 question

I´m changing my 318i M40 to a 318is M42, i have lost the aluminum housing for the rear crankshaft seal, this part goes bolted to the block. It exactly goes between the block and the flywheel,I have lost this piece... now my question is: is it the same part as the one in the M40 engine?? Or is it different?
I would appretiate a little help!!!

Yes, there is an m40 engine. We just didn't get it over here in the USA

Now to answer the guy's question, call a dealer and get them to look in the etk for you or look it up yourself on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

          Ah, excuse my euro ignorance.
According to realoem the part #s are the same for the m40 and m42.
          Try it out.

Hi there, after a few months restoring my m42, already did the m40-m42 swap, changed the whole wiring harness, and have a problem:
I replaced the lost aluminum cover for the rear crank seal mentioned above for the one in my m40. Now that the engine has been fired up, I got an oil leak coming from the bellhousing, and I´m asuming its from the mentioned cover. When I mounted it, I noticed it was a little offset, maybe 2mm. I´m pretty sure this is where the leak is coming from, but I just wanted to chek with the m42 gurus.
One more thing: I have advanced my admision 5 degrees, will this affect somehow if I change the chip?
            Thanks for your help guys

advanced your admision eh? what the hell are u talking about?

if however you are refering to your valve timing then yes i think it would affect the chip's performance

ignition timing is controlled by the DME and isnt adjustable so im pretty sure you dont mean that.
