What is this thing under my dash?

Didn't notice this the last few times I had my kick panel open. Looks like it wants to be stuck in a turkey to check the temperature. What is it, and should it be left dangling, or connected to something?

What is it connected to? Maybe a/c condensation vent...

Temp sensor for the AC evaporator. Slides between the fins in the unit.

ok, that makes sense. my A/C hasn't worked in years so i wouldn't miss it. i'll try to plug it back in in case i ever manage to fix my AC
