    Blower Fan Troubles

Soo we got our first taste of snow in Milwaukee on Monday and I had an interview in sheboygan, about an hour drive, blower worked fine all the way up but on the way back as I approached Milwaukee I noticed it cut out. It was on the #2 setting so I turned it to #4 and it worked fine, turned it back to #2 and it worked for about 30 sec and cut out, turned it to #4 worked, back to #2 and worked for 30 sec and cut out, turned it back to #4 and it worked for 30 sec and cut out, now it wont work on any settings. I replaced the blower last spring and it wasn't squeaking or anything so it shouldn't be that. #20 fuse is fine. My initial thoughts were that it was the resistor but when that goes out it should still work on #4. Only thing I can think of is the relay in the fuse box or the actual control nob in the HVAC panel. Any thoughts?

I'd kinda like to get this working, have to drive back to MN in a week, and its not going to be getting warm anytime soon.

Edit: So evidently when the relay goes out the power mirrors should also stop working. Going to try them when I get home. Could It be the safety switch in the resistor pack that caused it to cut out after 30 sec? might be the resistor pack after all...

Even if the resistor pack was bad, the blower should still work on #4.... that's all relay there. Then again, it might not be the blower - the switch could have gone bad.

I'm thinking it might be the resistor pack, but the safety switch instead of the usual resistors themselves.

Like I said I'll test the power mirrors tonight and report back.

              Lol.

Anyway, my first step would be to figure out if you've got power going into / coming out of the switch.... you've got something going on here. All four switch settings typically won't fail within such a short period of time...

The first 3 go through the resistor, #4 does not. Before you go wasting time tracing down something that might not be there just put in a good working resistor...if problem still persists then start tracing it out.

Power mirrors work so its not the relay. I'll pull the cover tomorrow and take a look at the resistor.
