    -O2 sensors for a Ford?

-I've read...somewhere... that an old Mustang 5.0 O2 sensor will work. Only the connectors are different, so one needs to splice them. The Bosch sensors for a Mustang cost about 1/2 as much.

    -True? Yay or Nay?

-Also, anyone know which wires go where, for the splice?

It’s likely true. (I’ve heard it too)

However, ain’t no amount of savings gonna persuade me to put a Ford part on my car. (but then again, yeah, they're both made by Bosch)

Patrick @ BMA recently sold me an O2 sensor for $108.

price for yours would be comparable..

A Mustang 5.0 o2 sensor goes for about $45-50. They're the exact same part. IIRC, all you have to do is splice in one wire.

Yes.. it's true... it's the exact same part.

I speak from exprience as my car has a spliced in Stang 5.0 O2 sensor.

I picked up a Bosch Mustang O2 sensor for $35 @ Advanced Auto Parts.

All 4 wire bosch sensors are the same, the only thing that is different is the length of cable, the connector, and the price.

Same goes for the other wire ones also.

A Bosch part is still a Bosch part.
There is no need to have to pay double the price for the same exact part just because i drive a BMW. All you have to do is splice in your original connector. All of the wire colors match up. It is very simple.

I have done this to mine, and it works great.

They are the exact same Bosch part. The only difference is the the connector. All I did was cut the connector off my old O2 sensor and splice it onto the Mustang Bosch O2 sensor. It's so simple my grandmother could do it.

Here's a good link for a "How to"

I read somewhere that the Ford F150 O2 sensor also has 4 wires and that this one can be used with the E30 "i" cars without any splicing of wires. Is this true?

-It would still need to be spliced, the connectors are different.

-I did the 3 wire/ 4 wire splice last night. The fourth BMW grey wire is just a ground, which is easy to take care of at the ground box on the shock tower. Works well.

I used a 5.0 ford motorsports o2 on my eta (3 wire). Then when I switched fuel injection I got a bosch 4 wire with everything. It crapped out so I stuck the 3 wire in and wired it up, no issues. The 4th wire on the 325i is redundant.

All o2 sensors are basically the same, its the connector you pay for. Some places dont even the sell the connector (albiet not quality parts stores).
