If you plan on changing the subframe bushings, putting the stand there won't work, since you'll have to remove the metal that the stand is on.

Since you have sideskirts...I'm really not sure where you can place the stand - I put mine where the OEM jack jaacks up the car.

Put them on the subframe. A bit more trustful that where you have it.

        Thanks for feedback.

Shit.. was hoping subframe could be unfastened and slid back for removal without taking chassis mounts off.
(also swapping in a different diff, all new suspension bushings, springs, shocks, yadda.. )

damn.. next thing I can think of is to get a grinder with a cut-off wheel and grind ‘slots’ on the top of my jack stand supports so the body seam has a place to ‘rest’ in.

remove the side skirts and use the factory jack points. This way you'll keep the side skirts from getting damaged and properly hold your car up. My e30 spent 3 weeks up on jackstands at the factory points, they hold just fine.

The subframe has to drop, the bolt doesn't move upward to allow you to slide the subframe away. While you're taking out the diff you'll need to drop the exhaust and driveshaft to allow the subframe to drop. Good luck.

The subframe mounting bolt can be removed. I put new ones in my car when I replaced my subframe bushings. Once the bolt and mounting plate are removed, remove the back seat and place a towel or large rag over the area directly above the bolt. Then just take a large hammer and drive the bolt up into the passenger compartment.

Well, this is what I ended up doing:

              1) acquired air grinder and cut wheels (pneumatic tools rock btw.. should’ve got an air compressor years ago!)

              2) mark jack stand

              3) grind slot

              4) test fit

              5) cut a chunk of bicycle inner tube

              6) support car with access to subframe mount

              7) consume beer

um, I'm not sure that lip you put the jack stand on can hold the weight of the car. I did that at first at the front of my car and it buckled under the load. I think it's the same lip that I had my jack stand on...I'll have to check under my car tomorrow.
