    Car not starting at all.

So yesterday I was driving to my friends house. On the way the lights began to dim, the exterior lights turned off and the interior lights became very dim. As I was driving the car began to lose power and stop accelerating. I pulled the car to the side. The coolant light came on so I put coolant in. I also got my friend to come and jump it. The car would start but could not maintain a consistent idle and would turn off. Before this I did let the car sit for about 3 weeks and drove it only once. I figured that the gas could have been old. I went to get gasoline but when I returned the car would not start. I attempted to jump the car again but it wouldn't even crank. I pushed the car to my friend's house where it now stands. I need to move it asap so I was wondering if anyone has an idea for a solution. My car is a 1990 325i. Thanks for the help in advance.

The battery ran down, probably because the alternator failed. You can put the battery on a charger overnight and have enough in the battery to drive the car a modest distance.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I bought a new battery but it still won't start. When I try starting it just makes a winding fan noise.

thats a confusing description. Winding fan as in aux fan? or hard cranking with no start?

Id say alternator first - fuel pump second - fuel filter clogged
