    Wiring or Diff sensor issue?

Well the car I got from my bro has lots of issues and one is the speedometer turning on and off. I'll hit a bump and it'll work perfectly and then it'll go out again. From what I found, it's the differential speed sensor (where can that be found on the car?) but at other times it works like this: I'm driving and the MPG needle goes to 0 and when I let go of gas, the needle goes to the top. at other times, the rev needle works only.

I'm pretty sure the whole "cluster?" (I'm assuming that's the whole speedometer section) was swapped before and I have a bunch of wires under the steering wheel exposed.

Does someone know if it's the sensor (I'm 80% sure it's that) or if the wiring is wrong? Also explain the right terms of the pieces please, if you wouldn't mind. lol. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also, I just recently had the oil changed and the coolant is half full but the lights up top are on and sometimes the break light is on too, but everything is fine. My engine check light is on, but the timing belt was done recently and there aren't any noticable problems with the car... This is a wiring failure too?

I'll chime in on the speedo. The sensor is on the diff cover. It's the only one on there so it's not hard to miss. You probably have a broken wire on it, mine was doing the same thing.

It wasn't the sensor. It has two wires going into it and like a white piece that goes into the diff, correct? I took it off (it had to bolts holding it) checked it out, everything was sturdy. No idea what to do... replace it?

it could be the cluster. I wanted to put a clock cluster in my car so i put my spedo in the euro clock cluster and put it all together. Long story short, the clock didn't work and the speed would work for 20 seconds and stop working till you hit it with your hand, put in the original cluster with that same spedo in the car and haven't had that problem since.

Hope your not confused from what i just wrote…

The cluster is whole section behind the steering wheel? I know this is noobish, but I don't really know. lol

At this point. I'm assuming it's that whole section is hooked up incorrectly, and I'll have to take it out and figure it out. Does anyone know a good link to a write-up or thread about the wiring for this?
