    E30 fan problem

    Hi all,

Just bought another e30 and it has a few little things I'd like to address. Probably the two biggest things is that if left idling the engine gets a bit warm. Once you are moving, no temp issues at all, and the heater fan doesn't work. Wondering If anyone has a few suggestions on where to start to hopefully trouble shoot these?

For the engine getting warm at idle I'm guessing the aux fan isn't kicking in or something? Not sure about the heater fan though.

    Thanks for the advice!

heater (blower) motor doesnt work at all? even on the highest speed? If it works on the highest speed (full), the resistor pack is at fault and can be fixed/replaced. It happens and it's not that unusual. If it doesn't work at all, it's kind of unusual, so start with the fuse first, make sure it isn't blown and go from there.

As for the engine getting hot, do you still have the clutch (engine) fan connected? If it cools down quickly when you get moving, usually tends to suggest your cooling system is working ok, radiator, etc is good, but your fan might need looking into. The clutches do fail in them and although they look like they are turning fine, they are more or less free wheeling, not really pulling air. How hot does it actually get? like, on the gauge. If the fan is running you'll feel it pull a lot of air, even at low revs, makes quite a noise if you bring the revs up at idle.
Just a little project im working on

Check your fan clutch. For the heater fan, does it work on #4 setting? If it does not then you are going to have to open up and check the blower. If it does work then replace or clean the blower resistor.
