So, i know this has been talked about but i can't find any specific answers to this particular problem. I got a 87is with a auto sunroof. No rust, everything looks to be in very good shape in the guides. This issue is that it wont open with the switch, only the manual tool. I tried swapping a window switch in and that did nothing. When i press the button i can hear something click. The click sounds like they do when they close. It's a bit sticky to open with the tool, like the cables are dirty or something, but it works fine in both directions. Think it could be a bad motor? Just adding one more thing. When i press on the silver relay looking thing in to the right of the motor, i can hear the motor run, but the sunroof doesn't budge. Maybe a gear is stripped?

im sorry i cant help you on your problem..best i could do is bump.
im having the same problem at the moment, only my mother works and my sunroof wont budge. no tilt no opening. i tried the allen key and still nothing.
how do i open this thing. -
