    power steering fluid

    my sisters 86 325 E30 has been making alot of noise when she turns...i havent had a chance to drive it yet to hear the noise first hand, but my dad said he checked and the power steering is low on fluid...will low P/S fluid level cause this? and what kind of P/S fluid should i fill it with...

      Dexron II or Dexron III atf.

          You are absolutely right, but that's what was in mine originally, so I thought I'd have Dex II in there too.

            thanks for the replys, so dexron 3 then, correct? any particular brands you would recomend?...and what damages can occur for the few days shes been driving it on low P/S fluid

              my sister just bought some valvoline SynPower P/S fluid...it doesnt specify if it is Dexron II or higher and it doesnt say if its compatible with non-synthetic P/S fluid...will it be safe for me to add this into her P/S system even though i think she has non-synthetic fluid in there?

                It doesn't say Dexron because it's not ATF!

                Don't put this anywhere near an E30 steering system. The system isn't designed for 'Power Steering Fluid' (as very few systems are). Just go buy some plain old ATF and you'll be fine.

                      yes, dont do p/s fluid. leaks mad. just get some ATF. thought i would join the bandwagon on this one; "Just say no to P/S fluid"
