    engine wont turnover, starter questions

The engine doesnt even try to turnover. I turn it to the on position and there are a couple little clicks and stuff then i turn it to the start position and absolutyly nothing happends. i hooked a jumpstart thing to it and still nothing. I guess my starter is ****ed? i will try to take it apart sometime and look at it. i found some starters at a local junkyard but they only have 325 starters? will they work?

and if the starter was good it would have turned when i connected the positive to the back end of the soliniod and the negitive to ground right?

    thanks

ok so me and my dad fianlly got the starter to turn....which means there is something wrong with the switch or the wiring...are any of these things common problems in e30's? how hard is it to take apart the steering coloum covers?

all you need to do is take a test lamp, and hook the clamp to a good ground, (ie. a bolt into the frame.) then touch the big fat wire at the starter, see if the lamp lights.

then touch the skinny wire *while someone has the key to the start postion)
and see if the lamp lights.

if the lamp lights in both places, then you have a bad starter.
if it lamps on the fat wire but not the skinny you have a bad starting signal circuit (such as fuse, relay, ignition switch)
if the lamp doesn't light on the fat wire, but lights up on the skinny. some how the starter is not getting power.(loose battery connections, weak battery, broken battery cable, corroded cables)

let me know what happends, and i hope this helps.

I had this problem a while back and got a new start well I went back to try one more time and it turned out to be the battery connection. I dont know how, but it came loose enough to where it wasn't getting power to the car, so try to loosing it up clean it out and reconnect it. Good luck :D

Nick... that car is a PEICE.

Back when it was forsale from who Joe bought it from, I was going to buy it as a parts car, because that is all its good for. I would have bought it for that purpose if I hadnt lost my job.

There is a reason the car was sold for pocket change.

It's nothing personal Nick, just stating facts. That car has ALOT of sketch items on it.
