    pricey!

Took my car to my mechanic, who I trust for his knowledge of old BMWs.

that's the front of my car right now FYI.

He quoted me $300 for replacing the front fan... which sounds crazy to me. What's the normal price for a used fan? Anything difficult about replacing them?

And he said they would need to repair and re-paint the whole hood, which also sounds crazy, but I don't know anything about body work. Thoughts?

$300 is steep for a fan. Does your AC even work? If not, just take it out.

If you repair any portion of the hood, you'll want to paint the whole thing.

Just to put you in perspective, a used A/C SYSTEM (including compressor, piping, switches, and fan) should run about $300.

So I'd say it's a bit much for just the fan.

Wait, so that fan in the front is only for use with the A/C? I thought it was for engine cooling or something.

Affirmative. Front fan is only for A/C. If you don't got A/C, then you don't need the fan.

Not true!!, The front fan is a puller and can be used for cooling. It also will kick on when the car it hot and you park>

Funny. Maybe I never noticed because my car doesn't get hot.

              I stand corrected I guess...

Yup, that's what the 2 radiator switches are for .. you can even buy like an 82C and 91C so the fan turns on even sooner...

Not to mention.. what are you guys talking about??? $300 for a used fan? I bought mine on ebay for $20! It works great.... maybe i got lucky.... real lucky...

Mmm, guess I'll replace it then. Are the 318 and 325 fans the same?
