powersteering pully too close to lower hoes

my 325e has a costant problem w/ the powersteering pully too close to the radiator hose and it keeps on rubbing it eventually punching a hole into it... i replaced the hose thinkint that maybe it was stretched too much... but is there anyway i can fix this??? and who has had to deal with this dilemma..

you could get a longer ps belt and adjust the pulley away from the hose.
    just an idea?

do you still have the bracket that bolts to the frame rail that holds the hose in place? it's designed to keep the hose away from the pulley.

yeah i still have that bracket... but its not doing a really good job of holding it out of the way... i think the motor mounts are... i dont know, i rev the shit out of it and it only moves soo much... but i guess its still clipping it... can i use an alternater belt to substitute for it??? i think their shorter..

Don't think the alternator belt is going to work, its about 140mm longer.

Are you reving it under load? usually the mounts break and bring the pulley closer to the hose.

You could also remove the power steering...that is gonna be my solution.

I can almost gurrantee you that your mounts are done...

My first autox left me with the very same problem and a big puddle under the car, the mounts break, the motor shifts over to that side and takes the lower hose with it...

                  invest in new mounts

                  OR

drill out your rubber and throughbolt the mounts makes it stronger than the original 2 studs...

I have also devised a wicked m42 mount using the same principle ;) but remain stock in appearance muahaha

you could take the belt into a parts store, they can measure it, and you can buy a shorter one by intervals of a half inch i believe.

Listen to the help you are being offerred!!!!

Your motor mounts are more than likely broken- it's a common problem. Fix the mounts and you won't have this problem anymore.

Why make it more difficult than necessary??? If the mounts are old and/or broken, only good things will come from replacing them- DO IT!!
