will a intake facelift pump fit in a 1985 318i?

the inline fuel pump is starting to whine in my new 318i, i want o replace both, i work at an import shop and i cant get a tank pump for it unless i want to spend $250.

my taught was to put a facelift cars pump, which is just the intank pump and remove the inline.

    will this work?

    thanks

You could replace the dual pump system with the in-tank high pressure pump from a late production 318is and replacement of the 10mm fuel hose/pipe that runs across the top of the tank.

There are two reasons for the external pump to make noise. One is simply that the pump is worn out, the other is that the flow into or out of the pump is obstructed (plugged filter, bad transfer pump, rusty tank, etc).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
