car will start but then wont start for atleast an hour

I have a 1989 m20 that I just put into my 325ix, but it is having starting issues that occur only immediately after the car is started successfully. There are no issues when the engine is running but once the car is turned off I have to wait at least ten to twenty minutes before the car will start again. The symptoms don't change from a warm start to a cold start so I think that it must be electrical

I had the ground wire that connects from the oil pan to the frame connected wrong and when I reattached that the symptoms seem to go away for a day but now they are back. But it seems like there is shorter time span in-between when I can start it again.

I live in Colorado and the car will start no problem in negative temperatures but once I turn the key off, or stall the car, the car wont start for a solid few minutes

it seems like a electrical problem but any ideas?

Chances are its a bad ground. Where its coming from who know, just need to use the process of elimination, starting from the obvious places. Starter? Alternator? Battery?

Most def bad ground. Check all of them, start at battery, clean them with "scotch brite" (no idea if you call it the same in the US, check google pics), and tighten good.

That sounds to me more like leaking fuel injectors or intake leaks than an electrical problem. But it could be a bad ECT sensor.

they are brand new fuel injectors and there do not seem to be any intake leaks when I do the smoke test
but I am interested about the ect maybe causing the problem
because I do have a check engine light for the ect but I just replaced the ect that is located right next to the water pump and the check engine light stayed on and never any big change in start up

are there multiple places that can cause trouble other that just the thermostat

If you have a fault code for the ECT that persist after installing a new ECT, my next suspicion would be damage to the ECT wiring at C191.
