Check oil light after chip install

Today was the third time i changed the chip on my car, first time i did it the check oil light on the check panel came on, it was really missing a quart so i put one in and it was all good, it came off. Second time it also came on but the oil was good so i unpluged the computer and repluged it and it was good, but now the third time it came on but the oil is good at the top mark, i then tried to unplug the computer and replug it, but no luck, do you have an idea how it works? Does the check panel go through the computer?

There is a level sensor on the oil pan, screws into the top at the front of the motor, it's responsible for your oil level light in the check panel. Every single M20 I've owned, where the sensor plugs into the loom behind the thermostat housing the plastic has become hard and brittle. I've had a few basically just break apart. I don't think ive ever seen the sensor itself fail.

As long as you physically have oil on the dipstick, the level sensor doesn't matter a whole bunch. Unless you are doing some autocross or something with real sticky tyres, then the oil might be climbing the walls and it might be coming on.

The DME and the check panel (and thus the check light) have nothing in common other than the battery. So the light coming on after changing the DME's chip aren't directly related. You could have a problem with the level sensor, it's wiring or connector, or with the check panel.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
