Changes in radiator early and late. Compatibility.

Just curious if my 85 could use a radiator from a 88?
I know they changed somewhere in 87 but was wondering if it was still compatible?

The outlet tube and the overflow tube are on opposite sides.

I think if you use hoses from a later e30 it'll work, but you should double check first.

Also, you'll need to get (or make) a new rad mount, as the early and late mounts are different.

While the cooling system (radiator, expansion tank, hoses, water pump and cross-over pipe) could be changed from the early to later style (or vice versa), it makes more sense to use the correct radiator for the car.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
