Central locking issue

Can someone give me a "to do" list of things to check in the central locking system? Mine doesn't seem to be working. I have a cabby and I'd like to use the central locking function...

Check THIS out. Trunk actuator is hanging loose. Key works fine in trunk, but when I tried to manually operate the actuator, nothing else locks/unlocks.

BUT - the passenger side door will UNLOCK the driver's side and the passenger's side, but not LOCK it.

I don't get it.

I don't get it.

- open driver side door,
- pull back rubber boot that cover wire harness
- undo plug
- be amazed by corroded condition the pin connectors will be in
- decide what to do :)

- no corrosion ? ...
- undo hood release handle
- remove kick panel and speaker
- pop plastic cover under speaker
- remove C/Lock module (bigger of the 2) and inspect connector.

now, you really wanna have fun ? ...
- wonder why your dome light does not have time delay
- purchase relay with delay function
- install and wonder some more :)

p.s. hitting yards today, I'll look for the door panels.

I feel like every single e30 has this same fucking problem. Ive yet to own one where all three locks work. On my 318 my trunk and passenger side dont work, which is fine by me cause I never use them, but if my drivers side ever goes Im proper fucked.


Solution, pony up the 30 bucks for keyless entry. Problem solved.

Mine - the DS works. Trunk works. Pass.side does not work.

The ES I had for a short time- the pass side worked, DS did not and the trunk actuator was hanging loose.

my 85 318i and 88 325is all the locks worked. On my 85 318i I kept having trouble with the central locking, my problem ended up being that the plug for the control unit was all nice and corroded. I think one of the sunroof drains were leaking letting watter sit down under the speaker. Once I fixed the plug I relocated it to under the dash.

My driver side and my passenger side doesn't work. I can lock my car from my driver side but in order to unlock the door(s), I have to use the trunk. So like the other person on here said. If my trunk stops anytime soon, I'm screwed...

Yup of 3 I have owend none of them had ALL the locks working properly.
I love to buy a keyless entry, BUT I dont think they will solve all problems. If there is a electrical OR mechanical problem somewhere then the keyless may still not work. IF there is a short or bad connection then there will still be a problem

We REALLY oughta have a "lock repair day" at Scotty's soon. We could probly even use a parts car inorder to learn on and experament. I know I HATE working on the insides of doors even w/ small hands it sucks donkey balls.

So far for the local NE group we have: Scott, Adam, Fielding & myself who need to fix a locking issue of somesort

I'm definitely down - I'm either going to strip the red rusty es and swap everything onto the cabby (the red es works properly, IIRC) or I'm going to run wires from each individial lock actuator at the doors and trunk back to the underdash and install a keyless system. One or the other...

PS - today tried something - with the top down, I locked both doors manually. when I UNLOCK the driver's or passenger's door by pulling up the pin, they both unlock. If I lock either - only that one side locks. Fucking retarded.

Well today I was pissed @ my truck so I decided to putter around on the vert'. I found that mine isn't as FUBAR'd as I thought. It's kinda funky if I double lock it but other then that the central locking works from both door's. woohoo, However I can not get the key to go into the trunk lock. Maybe it was changed and I dont have the key BUT it does lock and unlock from the doors so I can live w/ that.
