I bought this car last weekend, I'm new to e30's and I haven't been able to figure out what this mechanism does, I think it's a motor that pulls a cable but the cable isn't hooked up to anything?

That's the cruise control mechanism. Look closely at your throttle body. See where the throttle cable attaches, to the underside of the bracket through a plastic housing? Well there should be an identical plastic housing on the top of the bracket (in the picture, it appears to be attached to the CC cable in your hand). The cruise control cable attaches to the upper bracket, keeping the throttle open when you activate it.Comment
