    Failed CA Smog

    Hey so went to get the check done on my 1991 318is.

    Failed emissions.


    15MPH - FAIL

    HC Measured - 135 FAIL
    HC Max Allowed - 124

    CO Measured - 0.34 PASS
    CO Max Allowed - 0.78

    NO Measured - 950 FAIL
    NO Max Allowed - 754

    25MPH - PASS

    Car passed back in October of last year, so I'm not sure what is wrong.

    Called my BMW Mechanic down in San Diego and he suggested cooking the cat to clear it out a bit. Wanted to get everyone else's first though.

      Vacuum leak somewhere. Im having the same problem but with my friends 325i. We sprayed carb cleaner when the motor was hot and we found that the throttle body gasket was leaking.

          Failing at low speed and passing at higher speed is almost always intake leaks. Have a shop run a smoke test to find them.
          The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
