Sun roof rust, driver's side, underneath....

Ok, first, Hi, I'm new. Been a BMW fanatic since highschool when I thought the M1 was WAS cooler than the 944....

Anyhow, I just picked up an 89 IX and noticed, on the underside of the sunroof, on the driver's side, it's got some rust. Odd place. Then I looked at my 87 E and noticed rust in the SAME place. what gives?

Eventually it will bubble through the paint on the top. Sucks.

Ya pretty much. I am getting mine fixed this summer. It would be good to figure out why that happened though.

      Sold it.

I feel like the gasket surrounding the sunroof goes bad? Or perhaps some water gets in there during the winter then runs its course while the sunroof never opens?

its real common in florida. finding a good sunroof in the bone yard is rear. my 325i had it really bad. i found one in prestige condition and coated the undercarage with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. i soaked it into the groove and it should never rust again.

my dad and i are redoing a 1936 ford panel truck and every inch of metal on the car had this on.

          you can get it here.
