e28 Strange no start on crank issue

So a buddy of mine has an 88 super eta e28 and he is having a hard time getting the car started when cranking it over, but when we bump start the car starts every time.

Confirmed 12v at the coil with ignition on but random no spark.
The car is getting fuel.

When I pin out the cps it has no resistance between #1 and #2 pins and im guessing this is the issue but why would the car start on a bump start every time but not cranking??

Ideas??

Solved. It was the crank pos sensor
