e36 Key stuck in ignition

hey guys my friends e36 318ti has the key stuck in his ignition. to be more specific, the key wont go to the on position or the off its stuck in the ACC position. the key itslef is removable and comes out but the radio and gauges are on and wont shut off unless we disconect the battey. I know this isnt a e30 but i looked around on google and nothing. so any and i mean any info would be very helpful thanks.

I have had that problem before w/ double edged keys. It wasn't an bmw but I had to flip the key around to get it to properly turn back.

tryed it. shaking the wheel didnt do anything either.

Sorry. it was all I could think of. Sounds like you may need to replace the key part of the ignition

thats what i was thinking as well. i read up some stuff on other e36s and it seems like the keys are notorious for that

Very common, I'm supprised you can't find anything about it online. Replace the tumbler assembly and if he has the dough get new keys too. When they get worn out this crap starts happening.
