Hey all, I'm looking to replace my fuel pump soon. I have a late model, but I'm not sure if it has the Bosch pump or the Delco/VDO pump. Is there any way to tell (say by manufacture date or something) which pump I have? or is it pretty random (have to check myself).

I would imagine that it would say it right on it, if I remember correctly mine was a bosch. However I replaced my pump with a walboro 255lph, its not loud in my car but quite obnoxious in a couple other e30s. Maybe no beter than a stock pump but I like to think that it helps. Their competitors have a pump that's seems nicer and isn't making a racket.

Did you have to modify the assembly at all to accept the walbro or is it a pretty straightforward swap?
Right now, I'm swapping to be on the safe side of things, but in the future I do want to upgrade my motor so it might be worth it to have an uprated pump...'91 325i

OEM is VDO/Siemens. I think BMA may have the cheapest price. They have it for $181.04 but if you use coupon code spece30 it would be $171.99 with free shipping.
No real need to upgrade to an aftermarket pump unless you plan on a decent amount of boost. I'm running the original fuel pump in my 91 with 9psi of boost.Comment

I did have to modify it a bit but its is straight forward and took me about 30 minutes to finish. Mr.325 is right but I believe most 255lph pumps are a good amount cheaper. I paid around 85$ from Summit racing. Kamotors found one that seems to of better quality than the Walboro for the same price, Ill see if I can find out what brand it was.Comment
