    Door Lock Cylinder question

I recently jacked up my door lock cylinder on the driver's side of my e30. It seems like that little metal flap that the key pushes out of the way got stuck in the inward position. As a result I can't turn the key. Before I start screwing with it, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on the part that could help me out.

I imagine that part could act as a safety mechanism and that's why it won't work now, or it could just keep dirt out.

If I have to replace the part, can it be set so that my current key works, or do I have to replace all of the locks and get a new key to really fix the situation?

    Thanks,
    neil

You can order a pre-keyed lock from teh dealer with your VIN.

I thought, you can get the correct Key from the dealer. I didn't know that you can get a pre-keyed lock too.

I just got the lock cyl. rebuild kit from the dealer - installed the new lock cyl. over the weekend. Much easier than I thought it would be.

Isn't the "little metal flap" just a dust screen kind of thing - assuming that we are both referring to the same piece - that shouldn't really impact the key operation.
