    Power Steering Removal

    Well, my PS pump died a few weeks ago, so I just disconnected the belt, and kept the pump in. Now I want to remove the lines/pump to get rid of it. I already have the pump off, but is it true that I need to connect hte 2 lines coming off the rack together? Do I top off the fluid before doing so? Tell me whats up.

    I just topped off mine with lucas oil, and lucked the bolts in.

        Heh, how you been man? long time no talk!

        I dont really remember to tell you the truth, one is bigger than other but I forgot the bolt sizes.

          Here is what I did, and recommend.

          I took the lines and banjo bolts off. Cut the lines at the neck of the banjo end. Filled the neck with JB Weld, and let set... When ready just bolt them back in place as so:

              Matt where did you get that intake neck to replace the rubber boot?
              I need one for my tubo project as well... How did you get around not using an idle conttroll valve?

                The intake 90' elbow is 2.5" aluminized steel. For all my tubing, I used 4 U bends of 2.5" steel (all mandrel bent) and about 3 feet (total) of 2.5" blue silicone tube to connect them.

                As for the ICV, Megasquirt doens't require that you use one, just the idle can be irratic at times, It does have a feature to use a Ford idle valve, which i will incorperate a little down the road.

                  Matt, I have PS pump laying around from my 325iS motor, I dont know if its working well or not but if you want it, Ill give it to you for free just pay for S/H.

                    where is the site with your wright up on it,
                    I am trying to run all hard boost piping and I need some Ideas ...
                    I currently have a foot and a half of flexible tubing roughting the air.
                    I wonder if the ICV can be retrofitted to hook up to some hard lines.
                    what did you do with the brake booster lines that connect to the rubber boot?
                    and do you ever have you brake booster lines popping out of the throttle body?

                      Crap! Heeeelp!!!!!!!!!!

                      Sorry to bring up the old thread...

                      OK, so I removed the pump and reservior and lines, refilled the rack and capped off the lines at the steering rack similar to as described above... i just used the old banjo bolts, welded in the holes, and filled them with JB weld.

                      Now the car will not turn more than a little bit. and i need to leave for my internship tomorrow. i guess they were right that you need to run a line from one side to the other. how come jordan and Kavkazia got away with it?

                      HOW DO I FIX THIS (easily)? what's the deal? i don't want to have to go get more banjo bolts at the JY (or drill out the ones i filled up) and put the unused pump back on, but i'd rather not chop up my old lines either (i might have to go back to power steering if i ever sell the car).

                        do i just need to get all the power steering fluid (atf) out of the rack before capping it off? will this shorten life? Kavkazia said he topped up the rack first, so i'm stumped.

                        edit: nevermind, i found some info on other forums, and just went out and removed my caps, turned the wheel back and forth a few times to remove most of the fluid, didn't add anything, and re-capped it. works fine, feels pretty much like it has for the last year since i removed the p/s belt. i'll let you know if my car spontaniously combusts because of this.
