Lower alternator bolt/nut is defeating me

You are going about this in the wrong way. Dismount the alternator support bracket and fix what ever is wrong.

Not sure I follow you sir. If you mean the actual bracket for the alt and p/s pump it probably could have been removed if I had taken off the upper support bracket, the p/s pump, etc. Actually...that probably would have been faster after dealing with that damn nut for as long as I did!

Oh well...its fixed now. New parts are on their way and it will be cake to remove the alt. next time.
