It's likely you bent one or 2 or 3. Probably not 6, at idle.

You COULD try putting a new belt on it to see what the damage is
But there probably is some. If it was me, I'd pull the head.

We have repaired about 5 of them in the last year or so. One happened during starting and broke 2 valve heads off, the rest bent. Might get lucky and have a couple not bend, but in my experience, most/all the exhaust valves bend. Had one that had zero visible damage upon valve cover removal. If our timing belts "broke" and not stripped the cogs off them, I would say there's a chance only one bent (since the cam would stop moving at that instant), but is what usually happens is a few cogs get stripped off and the cam continues to rotate with the timing severely off, bending all the exhaust side.

I used to have customers (with hondas, mostly civics) that would insist that I try doing a timing belt job on something that alreadybroke. The hondas seem to be the ones that somehow magially never take damager and run safterwards

Do the math. At idle the engine is rotating approx 800 RPM - Revolutions per minute. 800 divided by 60 seconds is 13.33. So every second that the engine rotated after breaking the belt it had 13.3 chances to bend / break valves and other parts. That is if you shut the engine down to a dead stop in one second. There was probably alot more than one second that elapsed after that belt gave way.

    Pull. Inspect.

Start by removing the valve cover and look for broken rockers. I'm not aware of anyone breaking a TB and NOT damaging something, but I cant say its not possible. While you can replace the belt and then hand rotate the engine to check for valve damage, the best practice is to pull the head.

    You bent valves..

Pull the head and send it out to bimmer heads and have shant take care of you. I find a lot of local shops simply suck are theifs, or both.

    Timing Belt Snapped :(

My timing belt broke at idle sitting at a stop sign. Can I just replace my timing belt or do you guys think there could be damage? Thanks
