    check engine on

    Hey folks!

    I have an 87 cabrio.

So I replaced my M20 injectors with M50 green tops and installed a 173dme with a dinan chip. My check engine stays on now. I had another 173 in the car before and would intermittently get the check engine.

Car runs fine with both dme's. I could not do a pedal stomp test to retrieve any code.

Anyone have any idea what might cause this?

Check light or Check engine light? On coupes there can be some confusion. Not sure if you have the equivalent on a convertible. On my 89 you push the check button and the light goes off.

The stomp test should work if the idle and WOT switches in the TPS are both good.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Since the stomp test isn't working the TPS would be worth checking. I would also check your injectors to be sure they are seated correctly and all orings are in good shape. It's possible you've introduced a vacuum leak. Have you tried your old ECU?

the car runs like a champ. no hesitation, no fluctuating idle, no leaks from what I gather since I rebuilt the whole top end. the chk engine light on the istmt cluster used to come on periodically with with the old dme. but now with the chip and new dme it stays on all the time.
