Please, help needed with installing front window...

I think I may be borderline retarded, seeing how I cannot figure out how in the hell to install a front driver window on my 2 door '89 325i. I've searched high and low, but can't find any DIYs or videos that really help. Any help from other members who've replaced front windows would be greatly appreciated. Anything, please!!!

    Help out a dummy!

    Its not that tough.

Pull the panel, pull the mirror and remove the outer trim strip to start, then it will just slip out the top opening.

be careful, dont scratch the paint getting that strip off!

Ha, I'm way beyond that. Everything is off the door and since the old window shattered, all I had to do was remove the two "tracks" that then fell into the door. My question now is how to install my new window with the scissor-style mount, since I can't seem to get both of the tracks on the window to line up with the two "wheels" on the scissor mount.

Are you sure you have the correct window? Early and late are not compatible

Positive. The first person I bought a replacement from incorrectly sent me an early model window. I then picked up a late model replacement last weekend from Nitro Nick. This is definitely the right window, jsut can't figure out how to get both brackets glued to the window onto the two scissor mount wheels on the door. Ugh!

Come on folks. Nobodies ever replaced a front power window? Do I need to loosen anyThing on the regulator or should I just need to tilt the window forward and lower it onto the tracks? Front most track first then the rear most track? I tried this method already but maybe I just need more patience. Wish there was a well detailed DIY out there somewhere.

IIRC you put 1 of the rollers into its track and tilt the window either toward the front or toward the back to get the other roller in. Just have to play around with it to figure out the right sequence.

Exactly, I have never had an issue swapping them out. Hope you get it done!

And that's what I thought, but I can only ever seem to get one in before I'm stuck. I'll have to just keep trying and remain patient, so I don't smash this one and need yet another window.

Thanks man! It's funny, but I feel like I've heard mixed feedback. Some people on other forums have told me that there are screws on the scissor hoist that need to be loosened in order to fit the new window, yet I've heard nothing like that on these forums. Makes sense that I haven't, seeing how there are no visible screws anywhere on the hoist. Bolt, sure, but nothing that seems like they'd assist me.

Subscribed. I inherited a 4dr with all the window parts taken out and have no clue how to put the front ones back together (got the back ones though). There were no clue instructions anywhere.

Finally got around to addressing this. With some help from a fellow e30 enthusiast on Facebook, I figured out what was necessary. Loosen the lifting mechanism from the door. That will let you move the mechanism around inside the door in order to line up with the window brackets. It'll take some messing around, but you'll get it.

Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

                      Good luck!

I did...see my very last post right above yours. Loosen EVERYTHING and you can then finagle things easier within the door and get this taken care of. It was a pain in the ass, until I did that. Then it was pretty damn easy. Good luck!
