    Power Steering Belt

My power steering belt popped off recently after some Bimmer Fest shenanigans :3
Soooooo I got a new one from Advance Auto Parts which is supposed to be direct fitment but its waaay too loose and I tried to adjust the tensioner and it won't budge
    .
I think the belt is the wrong one compared to other manufatuers. Part is Dayco Top Cog 15330.
    Someone help please.

    Power Steering Belt

Buy the correct one from BMA

The Dayco one is oversized by about an inch. I would know because I am running it. If time allowed, I would have waited on one from BMA, but my car is a daily, so I couldn't hold out

EDIT: Sorry, I got confused with Duralast (Autozone stuff). No clue on the Dayco, but I would double check it compared to your old one and buy it accordingly from BMA or Blunt. Both suppliers are good an know their stuff, so you'll get the right parts

Yea I never heard o Daycare but I'm looking and someone said the part number is the measurement or something so 15x330? This is confusing me. I cant compare my old one because its somewhere on the side of the road on 395 haha. But if I can run the Duralast one temporarily until I get the BMA, that would be sweet. I got the Dayco one on and turned on the engine and the belt flew right off lol. I didn't think it was that loose.

Now I'm finding belts from another manufacturer is 10x835...what's going on here?!

Don't forget to loosen the pivot bolt.

I searched the forum and found a diagram showing which bolts to loosen. I loosened the pivot/tensioner/and the bolt opposite of it. The diagram showed bolts #7, 9, and 10. The thing still wouldn't budge.

That's what I found but I can't find that part anywhere to pick up, I have to order it. Bummer.

                    A manual rack? Explain.

Okay. I got the **** thing to move and all tightened but the belt still has an inch of play when j pull on it. The belt isn't popping off when the engine runs, but now I can feel the belt slipping on the pulley as well as a crazy squeaky sound when turning as I'm stationary or at low speed. After further investigation I noticed the rubber teeth are outside of taper while on the other belts, the taper and teeth are on the same side.

I thought about flipping it but that wouldn't work as the untapered side won't fit into the Lilly groove. I'm convinced this crap is just crap and will drive it temporarily until the 10X825 one comes in. I will try to post photos and get you guy's opinion.

We won't get into manual vs powered racks. The belief that manual racks give you more steering feel is just a myth, but that's just one mans opinion

I actually like the feel of my power steering and have a brand new Z3 steering rack swap, I'm not touching it for a while lol.

But I just looked at a bunch of power steering belts from BMW parts sites and specialist and this Made In USA crap is completely effed up. The teeth and taper are supposed to be on the inside so it could grip the pulley. I'm so pissed. But the right one will be here Wednesday.

I've learned my lesson, never buy parts from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts lol. They also gave me a crappy gas cap. I failed emissions because the seal wasn't properly sealing. *mad face*
