    A touchy subject r-152a refrigerant

After spending almost $900 to convert my e30 to 134a the right way parallel flow condenser new 134a expansion valve new compressor, drier

and the a/c was still pitiful I live in the closest thing to hell 6 months of the year and having no bueno a/c in the e30 was wearing on me

I had heard of others having sucsess using 152a aka "air duster" in r-12 vehicles, so desperate I decided to give it a try I bought 3 cans and charged 1.5
in and it seemed overcharged so I took some back out and probably ended with
1 can worth and the change in performance was amazing I hit 38.4 degrees on the highway and its stays around 43 degrees or lower on surface streets sitting at idle is still leaving something to be desired but with this puny condenser I cant expect much

I am not saying yank out your 134a and put this in but if you live in a hot box and are not satisfied I would certainly give this a try

Interested in how you put the content of the air duster into the E30 system.

I recovered the r134a pulled a vacuum on the system then used a can tap that i bought from napa you need one that works for r12 as the r134a cans are larger but the duster cans are the same size as r12 cans

Just did about 5 minutes of research and learned two interesting things:

              1. It's flammable
              2. Ignition creates hydrofluoric acid, which can also happen with R-12 and R-134, but not as easily due to those not being flammable.

Why not use r12, it works the best and the e30 system is designed for it. Unless you need to be able to grab more refrigerant from wallmart 24hr a day just get the right stuff and enjoy cold factory AC

Nothing wrong with r-12 if this didn't work thats what I was going to do but it is expensive if I was gonna go back to r-12 I would buy a 30lb tank and have enough for life

                    Fun fact.

I had a funcational R12 system. Worked great, then died (Just slowly leaked enough)
Filled with propane just to prove a point to someone who didn't believe me. Worked great for 10 minutes, then drained it. Then, while he was still watching me, I switched it over to R134a with just the conversion nipple, using the stock equipment Worked great for a year. Blew the condenser in Colorado on my road trip. Replaced in cali with another factory unit (for $15!!!). Still works great.

Moral of the story. My car is fucked up 9 ways to sunday and everything on it still works. Which is fucked up.

I always wonder if I'll have AC in an E30.

might take you up on that offer, however before i decide to i think i might replace a major amount of the system with new bits, my system is leaking slowly i'm sure.
